How Nausea At Night Can Be Managed And Controlled

Nausea at night can be one of the most worrying symptoms of a variety of health conditions, and can exacerbate the problems by making you lose sleep and feel extremely fatigued. It is possible in most cases to approximate the cause of the problem well enough to formulate a treatment plan, even though the exact causes may remain unknown. There are several hundred exact causes, and all of them are eminently treatable by either natural or artificial means.

It can be extremely disconcerting to suddenly wake up in the middle of the night with nauseous feelings. If you are not used to these, and are not aware of any other medical problems going on in your life, there is a strong possibility that you have a temporary stomach upset. This is often caused by food poisoning, and the body taking in something which has given it a bacterial infection. This does not necessarily mean that the food itself was contaminated, it could just be that a work surface on which food was prepared had not been cleaned properly. Food poisoning may well cost you one or two nights sleep and leave you feeling completely drained, but it will be a temporary condition.

There are thousands of women who experience symptoms of nausea at some time during their pregnancy. Usually, this occurs in the morning, hence the common name of morning sickness. There are no hard and fast rules about this which the body has to abide by, so it is perfectly possible for there to be late night nausea as well. This can interfere with the body's ability to rest before the bouts of morning sickness, and therefore increases the likelihood of medical attention being necessary. Try to eat most of your food during the middle hours of the day, and allow as much relaxation time as possible in between sleeping.

stop nausea

If you are waking up and suffering nausea at night regularly, it may be that there is a mental cause at the bottom of the situation. It is not uncommon for people with traumas buried deep within the subconscious mind to have difficulty with the hours of darkness, and this can manifest in a variety of ways. The only way the problem can be solved completely is if the trauma is uncovered and then dealt with. This can happen most effectively with a treatment such as hypnotherapy, which will take you back in time and allow you to relieve certain incidents.

It is important not to just consider the immediate symptoms and how they can be dealt with, but to look at the overall picture and try to discern what may be causing them to occur in the first place. If you have started feeling nauseous during the night hours regularly, and the problem is a relatively recent one, think about what may have changed in your lifestyle recently. If you are eating acid forming foods or drinking alcohol shortly before retiring, this may have had a cumulative effect over many months and be causing the difficulty. You may need a medical examination to make sure you do not have a more serious underlying condition.

Relieving nausea at night can be difficult, especially as your mind will constantly be on the condition as you try in vain to get to sleep. Drugs are a possible solution in the short term, but they will only increase the acidity in the bloodstream and can also affect sleep patterns and the quality of sleep. Before you do anything else, it will be worth moderating your diet and lifestyle to be more in tune with the body's needs. In many cases, this will be enough to stop nausea at night.
